Former Athletic Club forward Raul Garcia has admitted that his former teammate, Iñaki Williams, has struggled to replicate his club form on the international stage with Ghana.
Williams, who switched allegiance to the Black Stars in 2022 after being born and raised in Spain’s Basque region, made his debut in a friendly against Brazil that September.
However, the striker has managed just one goal in 17 appearances for the four-time African champions, a stark contrast to his impressive performances for Athletic Bilbao.
At club level, Williams has been a standout player, helping Bilbao secure their first Copa del Rey title in 40 years and adding two Spanish Super Cups to his name.
“It is true that he has not reached the desired levels when he plays for Ghana,” he told LALIGA press.
“This is, however, no excuse but normally for these matches you have to travel long hours and this is not good for performances of a player, but he wants to do things the right way and he wants to be there,” he added.
This season, Williams has continued his stellar club form, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 18 La Liga games, with Athletic Club comfortably in fourth place.
