The Egyptian international referee, Mohamed Adel, delivered an admirable officiating performance in the recently concluded match between Mali and South Africa, marking the first round of Group Five fixtures in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire, continuing until February 11.
The game concluded with Mali securing a 2-0 victory against South Africa at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.
Referee Mohamed Adel made a notable decision when he awarded a penalty, later missed by Percy Tau, in favor of South Africa against Mali in the 19th minute of the match.
This decision came after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
Percy Tau’s penalty kick was remarkably off target, far from the Mali team’s goal.
Referee Mohamed Adel positioned himself closely to all the balls and interventions across the field, ensuring the accuracy of each decision he made.
Throughout the game, Mohamed Adel issued a total of four yellow cards evenly distributed between the two teams, with each side receiving two cards.
Ahly’s player, Percy Tau, participated in the entire match, while Yaw Yeboah was substituted out in the 77th minute.
Assisting Mohamed Adel were Mahmoud Abu Elregal and Ahmed Hossam Taha as assistant referees, with Amin Omar as the fourth official.
