“I’m happy with the result” – Hugo Broos reflects on Bafana Bafana’s friendly against Ghana ahead of AFCON 2025
South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has expressed mixed feelings after his side edged Ghana’s Black Galaxies 1-0 in an international friendly played on Tuesday afternoon.
The match formed part of Bafana Bafana’s build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the hosts using the encounter to fine-tune preparations for the tournament in Morocco.
Played at the Dobsonville Stadium, the contest proved to be a stern test for South Africa against Ghana’s CHAN team. Despite facing sustained pressure at times, Bafana Bafana managed to claim victory courtesy of a lone strike from Sipho Mbule, which ultimately separated the two sides.
While pleased to come away with a win, Broos admitted he was far from satisfied with his team’s overall display.
“I’m happy with the result that we won the game, but I think we can play much better than today,” he said in a post-match interview on SABC 2.
The Belgian tactician went on to highlight areas that require improvement ahead of the tournament.
“We didn’t really play a very good game, there was not so much movement in the team what we are used to, the passing was not good. So we still need a little bit work to be on the highest level for next week,” Broos added.
South Africa will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign on December 22 with an opening Group B clash against Angola, before taking on Egypt and Zimbabwe in their remaining group fixtures.
