Former Tottenham manager and Premier League veteran Tim Sherwood, has weighed in on the ongoing speculation surrounding Egypt star Mohamed Salah and his future at Liverpool FC.
Rumours about Salah’s potential departure have swirled ever since tensions arose between the Egyptian forward and Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot earlier this season. The situation intensified following a fiery interview last December, where Salah accused Slot of unfairly shifting blame onto him, placing the star striker in a difficult position.
Despite returning to the starting lineup after his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, and scoring a goal while assisting another in Liverpool’s recent FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Salah has yet to replicate the extraordinary scoring levels he achieved last season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sherwood argued that Salah’s current return to form doesn’t change his long-term plans. “Let’s be clear, I think Salah is one of the best foreign players to have ever played in the Premier League, and there is no doubt he has suffered a decline in performance this season, and there have been some crises between him and the coach, whatever their nature,” Sherwood said.
The former Tottenham boss added confidently: “I’m 100% sure he’ll leave next summer, and what he’s doing now is like his last farewell dance with the team.”
Sherwood praised Salah’s contribution to Liverpool and English football, saying: “In my opinion, he will definitely leave Liverpool and will get a great send-off at the end of the season, whether it ends with a title or not. He certainly deserves to win trophies, and whatever happens, he has been a loyal and great servant to this club.”
Salah signed a new two-year contract last April, keeping him at Liverpool until 2027. However, according to Sherwood, the Egyptian star’s next season could mark the final chapter of his illustrious spell at Anfield.
