Ilyas Ansah set to join Hull City for Union record fee

Ilyas Ansah is set to leave Union Berlin after only one season, with Hull City reportedly ready to sign the towering striker for a club-record fee.

According to Bild, the Premier League newcomers have agreed to pay approximately €22 million for the 21-year-old, although the final split between the guaranteed amount and performance-related bonuses still needs to be clarified.

The transfer would make Ansah the most expensive sale in Union’s history. Taiwo Awoniyi currently holds that record after joining Nottingham Forest for €20.5 million in 2022.

Ansah arrived at the Alte Försterei last summer from SC Paderborn in a deal worth €4 million. During his only campaign with Union, the 1.97-metre centre-forward made 37 appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

The German Under-21 international is now preparing for a major career step in England, subject to completing his medical examination. Hull, recently promoted to the Premier League, view Ansah as a valuable attacking addition as they prepare for the demands of top-flight football.

For Union, the agreement represents a significant financial return on their investment and could provide funds for further squad improvements before the transfer window closes.
