Iliman Ndiaye confident ahead of Senegal’s World Cup campaign

Iliman Ndiaye says Senegal will approach the 2026 World Cup with determination and complete focus, insisting the squad will not allow distractions to interfere with their ambitions at the tournament.

The attacking midfielder is preparing to represent Senegal at his second World Cup after helping the national team establish itself among Africa’s leading football nations in recent years.

The tournament, which will take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, comes after another demanding club season for Ndiaye with Everton FC.

Speaking to BBC, the Senegal international said the Lions remain fully concentrated on the challenge ahead and are approaching the competition with the same mentality that previously helped them succeed at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We will approach the World Cup with the same focus, the same thirst for victory and the same determination as before the AFCON. Another trophy is at stake and nothing will distract us,” he said.

Senegal will enter the competition with growing expectations as they prepare for their fourth appearance at the World Cup. The team has continued to build on recent progress and will face a difficult challenge in Group I.

Their opponents include France, Norway and Iraq, with the Lions scheduled to begin their campaign against Didier Deschamps’ France side.

Ndiaye’s comments reflect the confidence currently surrounding the Senegal squad as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament.

Having already experienced the demands and pressure of a World Cup, the midfielder appears determined to help guide the team through another major international challenge.

The former African champions are expected to rely on a blend of tournament experience and attacking quality as they attempt to progress from a competitive group and make another strong impression on the global stage.

For Ndiaye, the focus remains clear as the countdown to the tournament continues, with Senegal aiming to carry their winning mentality into football’s biggest competition.
