Ilias Chakor: Swiss-Moroccan right-back joins FC Ascona on free transfer from Lugano II

Swiss-Moroccan defender Ilias Chakor has joined FC Ascona on a free transfer from FC Lugano II, completing a move that brings one of the Promotion Leagues youngest regular full-backs to the club. The 19-year-old right-back switches within the Swiss football pyramid after his deal with Luganos second team came to an end.

Chakor, who can operate across the defensive line but is primarily used at right-back, arrives at Ascona having already built up senior experience in the Promotion League. He made 14 appearances in Switzerlands third tier, accumulating 765 minutes of game time as he adjusted to mens football after progressing through youth and U19 competitions.

Before stepping up to Lugano II in 2025, Chakor came through the ranks at Team Ticino U19, whom he joined in 2023 from Bellinzonas youth system. At U19 level he was a consistent presence, featuring 52 times in the U19 Elite League and adding further outings in domestic youth cup and play-off fixtures, amassing more than 5,000 minutes across Switzerlands youth competitions.

Born on 7 February 2007 and eligible for both Switzerland and Morocco, Chakor represents a youthful addition to Asconas defensive options as they prepare for the new campaign. His move also marks the latest step in a career that has so far been entirely based in the Ticino region.

Chakors transfer to FC Ascona was completed on 13 July 2026 as a free transfer following his departure from FC Lugano II.
