Iker Casillas has decided to remove his two sons from Real Madrid’s academy after becoming unhappy with their treatment at the club.
Martin and Lucas, who both play as goalkeepers like their father, will leave La Fabrica after two seasons and move to Leganes, according to Spanish media reports. The decision has already been communicated to Real Madrid.
The move followed Martin losing his prominent role within the academy, while neither of the brothers was called up for the Futures tournament in Orlando. Those developments prompted Casillas to take action.
Martin, 12, and Lucas, 10, are the sons of former Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas and journalist Sara Carbonero. Their departure has been agreed with both children and their family environment, according to Marca.
The brothers began their football development at Pozuelo before joining Real Madrid, where they spent two years. They will now continue their training at Leganes in what their family believes will be a more suitable development project.
Martin previously attracted attention during his participation in the World Tournament (Under-12), while Lucas impressed by saving several penalties against Barcelona.
The decision brings their time at Real Madrid’s academy to an end after two seasons.
