‘If there is a team that deserves to go to the World Cup, it is South Africa’ – Hugo Broos
The head coach of the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Hugo Broos, has opined that his team deserves to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup more than any other opponent in Group C.
The Bafana Bafana are in a group which has Nigeria, Benin, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
After eight matches, Benin top the group with 14 points, the same as South Africa, who have been docked three points for using an ineligible player in their win against Lesotho early this year.
With two matches left to play, Hugo Broos is confident the Bafana Bafana can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“There are no doubts, there have never been any doubts from my side, and I will try to transfer this to the players at a meeting we will have on Tuesday [today],” he said, according to safa.net.
Broos added, “I believe in this group, and I am sure that they will do everything in their power to win that game on Friday. Why should we doubt ourselves now after our performances in the qualifiers?
“If there is a team that deserves to go to the World Cup, it is South Africa.”
South Africa’s next match against Zimbabwe will kick off at 4 pm on Friday. He Bafana Bafana will subsequently take on Rwanda to end the qualification campaign.
