Idrissa Gueye: Senegal midfielder joins Al-Diriyah from Everton on free transfer

Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Diriyah from Everton on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old defensive midfielder makes the switch after his time in the Premier League and becomes part of Al-Diriyah’s squad following the move completed on 9 August 2026.

Gueye brings extensive experience from French and English football, having previously played for Everton and Paris Saint-Germain among other clubs. His career has also included a spell with Lille, where he won the French league and French Cup during the 2010-11 season.

The Dakar-born midfielder collected three French league titles in total. He won two more with Paris Saint-Germain, in the 2019-20 and 2021-22 campaigns, after first lifting the trophy with Lille.

Gueye also won three French Cups, one French League Cup and one French Super Cup during his time with Paris Saint-Germain. His honours with the French club included the 2019-20 league, cup and League Cup treble, followed by the 2022-23 French Super Cup.

At international level, Gueye was part of the Senegal team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022. The achievement remains the country’s first title in the competition, and adds a major international honour to the midfielder’s club-record success.

He is a right-footed player whose primary position is defensive midfield. Gueye stands 1.74m tall and joins an Al-Diriyah side competing in Saudi Arabia’s top division.

The move takes him from England’s Premier League to the Saudi Pro League, ending his latest club association with Everton and giving Al-Diriyah a midfielder with experience of domestic football in France, England and international competition with Senegal.

Gueye’s transfer to Al-Diriyah was completed as a free move on 9 August 2026.
