Ibrahima Konate has returned to Real Madrid group training at Valdebebas, giving Jose Mourinho a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s La Liga trip to Villarreal.

The France defender had been sidelined after suffering a collateral ligament injury in his right knee during the last international break. He immediately returned to Madrid for treatment and has since followed a gradual recovery programme.

Marca reports that Konate took part normally in collective drills, possession work and tactical exercises on Tuesday without showing any discomfort. He is now targeting the Villarreal match, although the medical staff remain cautious and will assess how his knee reacts over the coming days.

His return matters because Real Madrid are short of centre-backs. Eder Militao and Raul Asencio are unavailable, while Dean Huijsen is suspended for the next game.

Konate brings power in duels, pace in recovery runs and a strong aerial presence, qualities Mourinho will value against a Villarreal side capable of punishing space in behind.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but Konate’s return to the pitch is already a welcome sign for a defence under pressure.
