Ibrahima Konate leaves France camp due to fitness concerns

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate will not be available for France when they take on Iceland in the 2026 World Cup qualifier on Monday.

Despite not being fit, Konate, who has Malian roots was handed an invite to represent France in the World Cup qualification games against Azerbaijan and Iceland.

Konate picked up an injury setback while in action for Liverpool against Chelsea, a game his outfit succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

While with Les Bleus, the defender did not participate in a single training session and has been forced to return to his club for further assessment.

Meanwhile, France manager, Didier Deschamps has called up Inter defender Benjamin Pavard, who is currently on loan at Marseille to replace Konate for the Iceland showdown.

The injury come as a huge blow for Liverpool, who are struggling to regain their form in the current campaign, having lost their last three matches. Konate is expected to undergo medical test to determine the extent of his injury.

The defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season has yet to sign a new deal for the Premier League giants.
