Ibrahima Konaté bids emotional farewell to Liverpool after five-year spell at club
France international of Malian descent Ibrahima Konaté has said his final goodbye to Premier League giants, Liverpool as he depart the club this summer.
Konate leaves Liverpool after five years spell, having joined the club in 2021 from Leipzig and established himself as an important part of the teams defensive setup during his time in England.
Reflecting on his journey, Konaté described his spell at the club as one filled with unforgettable experiences, emotional highs and lows, and strong connections formed with teammates, staff and supporters.
“Dear Liverpool, Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Representing this club has been an honour. We’ve shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.”
Besides, Konate opened up about personal difficulties he faced away from the pitch, including the passing of his father, while stressing his commitment to the club remained unwavering.
“Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge.”
Konaté went on to thank everyone at the club for their support and development during his time at Anfield, from coaching staff to teammates and behind-the-scenes workers.
“To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every single day.”
The defender also reserved special praise for the Liverpool supporters, acknowledging the emotional connection he formed with the Anfield faithful.
“And to the supporters… thank you for your love, your energy, and your incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.”
He added his disappointment at not being able to properly say goodbye in person after discovering that his final appearance had come without prior knowledge.
“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game. At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you.”
Konaté concluded his message with a promise to carry the club with him into the next chapter of his career.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go. This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter. See you again soon, inshallah” he concluded.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both player and club, with Liverpool now set to reshape their defensive options ahead of the new season.
During his Liverpool, Konate made 183 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists across competitions.
