Ibrahima Balde: FC Lorient Eye Move for Rodez AF Forward in Ligue 1 Push
France-Senegal forward Ibrahima Balde of Rodez AF is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side FC Lorient as the top-flight club weigh up attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Balde, 23, has emerged as a target for Lorient after his performances in Ligue 2, where he operates as a centre-forward for Rodez. The proposed switch would see him step up a division, with Lorient looking to add depth and competition in the final third following their return to the top flight.
Rodez are understood to be in a relatively strong position to negotiate, with Balde under contract until 30 June 2028. That long-term deal means any agreement is likely to require a significant fee for a Ligue 2 player, with the striker currently valued in the region of €2 million, a figure that offers a reference point for potential talks.
Balde’s displays for Rodez in France’s second tier have drawn attention from higher up the pyramid, and Lorient’s interest reflects a strategy of recruiting from within the domestic market rather than looking abroad. The move would also keep the dual-nationality forward in a familiar environment as he continues his development in French football.
With the transfer window under way and both clubs finalising their plans, Rodez are yet to publicly indicate a willingness to sell, while Lorient have not commented on the speculation. For now, Balde remains tied to Rodez on a contract running to 2028, giving the Ligue 2 club leverage as any negotiations develop.
