Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye is facing increasing uncertainty over his role at the club after being left out of the squad for their Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyonnais, extending a difficult spell of limited involvement.

The 18-year-old, regarded as one of Senegal’s most promising young players, has not featured regularly since returning from international duty, where he helped his national team with a goal and an assist following their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations success.

Since then, Mbaye has struggled for minutes at club level, with his last significant involvement coming in March when he played just 15 minutes in a 4-0 win over Nice.

He has since remained unused in several key fixtures, including league matches and Champions League encounters against Liverpool and Chelsea.

His omission from the squad against Lyon has intensified discussion around his current standing within the team.

Questions have been raised about the reasons behind his absence, with speculation ranging from training performances to contract-related issues. His current deal reportedly runs until 2028.

There has also been external attention on a social media post during the Africa Cup of Nations final period, though no official link has been made between that incident and his current situation at the club.

Speaking previously when asked about Mbaye’s situation, head coach Luis Enrique avoided giving a direct explanation but stressed the club’s continued belief in the player.

“Is Ibrahim Mbaye different at club and international level? I don’t know, you’d have to ask the player. I think we’ve given IB a lot of confidence, but there are times when you’re more comfortable at club level, others with the national team… That doesn’t change what we think of him. I hope he can also show his quality in Paris.”

Despite that backing, Mbaye’s lack of playing time has led to growing uncertainty over his immediate future in Paris.

While he remains highly regarded for his potential, the situation has opened the door to speculation about his next steps, particularly ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
