Ibrahim Diabaté's future remains uncertain after returning from Spain

Ivorian forward Ibrahim Diabaté has yet to return to training with GAIS following the conclusion of his loan spell at Spanish side Deportivo Alavés, leaving uncertainty over where he will continue his career despite remaining under contract with the Swedish club.

The striker is back from Spain after spending the second half of the campaign with Alavés, but he has not rejoined GAIS as preparations continue.

His absence has fuelled questions over his immediate future, with the club still assessing its options regarding one of its most valuable attacking players.

Diabaté joined GAIS in 2025 from Västerås SK and quickly established himself as one of the standout performers in the Swedish top flight.

He enjoyed a remarkable debut season, scoring 18 league goals to finish as the Allsvenskan’s leading scorer.

His prolific form attracted attention beyond Sweden and ultimately earned him a move to Spain during the winter transfer window.

Alavés secured the striker on loan, giving him the opportunity to test himself in La Liga.

During his time with the Spanish club, the Ivorian made 10 league appearances, six of them as a starter. He also found the net twice, adding valuable experience in one of Europe’s top leagues while continuing his development at the highest level.

Now back from his spell in Spain, Diabaté’s next step has yet to be determined. Although he remains contracted to GAIS, the Swedish club has not confirmed whether the striker will return to the squad or move elsewhere before the transfer window closes.

Interest in the 24-year-old is believed to be growing, with several clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, no formal bid has been submitted to GAIS, meaning discussions over his future remain at an early stage.

For the moment, the Swedish side continues to evaluate the available options as speculation surrounding the striker’s future persists.

Until a decision is reached or an official offer arrives, Diabaté’s next destination remains undecided despite his successful spell in Sweden and his experience in Spain.
