Ibrahim Al-Asri elected new Wydad Athletic Club president

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have ushered in a new era of leadership after Ibrahim Al-Asri was elected as the club’s new president, succeeding Hicham Ait Mena.

Al-Asri secured victory in the club’s presidential election held during Wydad’s Ordinary General Assembly for the 2025/26 sporting season, defeating fellow candidate Yassine Saadallah in the decisive second round of voting.

The newly elected president received 72 votes in the final round, while Saadallah managed 56 votes, allowing Al-Asri to take charge of one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.

The election followed the departure of Hicham Ait Mena, whose tenure at the helm of the Casablanca-based club came to an end after his board’s resignation.

Al-Asri’s arrival comes at a crucial moment for Wydad, with the club seeking stability and renewed success both domestically and on the continental stage.

The new administration is expected to address key areas, including squad strengthening, sporting direction and restoring the club’s competitive edge.

Ahead of the final vote, Al-Asri had already emerged as the leading candidate in the first round of elections, collecting 62 votes, ahead of Saadallah’s 43 votes, while Anas Karami exited the race after finishing third with 27 votes.

The new Wydad president now inherits the responsibility of guiding the “Red Castle” through a period of transition as the club aims to reclaim its position among Africa’s elite football institutions.

With a passionate fan base demanding success and consistency, Al-Asri’s leadership will be closely monitored as he begins the task of shaping the future direction of the historic Moroccan club.
