Ibou Sané’s season ends early after knee injury in Amiens defeat
Ibou Sané’s season has come to an early end after the Senegalese striker suffered a knee sprain during Amiens’ 3-2 defeat to Rodez in Ligue 2 on Friday.
The 20-year-old was forced off in the 29th minute of the match at Stade Paul Lignon, with the injury proving serious enough to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
The setback brings a sudden halt to his progress with the French second-tier side.
Sané, who joined Amiens on loan from FC Metz in February, had been expected to use the move to gain valuable playing time and continue his development.
The loan deal did not include an option to buy, and followed his decision to extend his contract with the Ligue 1 club before making the temporary switch.
His spell at Amiens came under Senegalese coach Omar Daf, where he made six appearances after arriving in the winter transfer window. The injury now prevents him from adding to that tally this season.
Before moving on loan, Sané had featured 18 times in all competitions for FC Metz, scoring one goal and registering one assist.
The move to Amiens was seen as an opportunity to build on that experience in a more consistent playing environment.
Instead, the injury has cut short what was intended to be a key development period for the forward.
His early exit against Rodez marked the turning point in what had been a difficult match for Amiens, who ultimately fell to a 3-2 defeat.
The focus now shifts to recovery for the young striker, with his season officially over despite still being in the early stages of his professional career.
The setback represents a significant interruption in his progression, both at club level and in his longer-term development path.
Amiens will now continue their Ligue 2 campaign without him, while FC Metz will also be monitoring his rehabilitation closely ahead of his return at the end of his loan spell.
