Ian Rush urges Mohamed Salah to stay at Liverpool amid contract speculation

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has shared his perspective on Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield, advising the Egyptian forward to consider extending his stay with the club as speculation surrounds his next move. Salah’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire in June, sparking debates over his plans.

Rush, Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer with 346 goals, offered insights based on his own experiences of leaving the club.

Speaking to The Mirror, the Welshman urged Salah to remain at Anfield, emphasizing the importance of stability and playing time in making such decisions.

“I would like him to extend his contract. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m sure all the Liverpool fans would like that too,” Rush said.

Reflecting on his own career, Rush shared how his departure from Liverpool—first to Juventus in Italy and later to Leeds United in England—was driven by a desire for regular playing opportunities.

“I left Liverpool because I wasn’t playing regularly. I just wanted to play football; I didn’t want to sit on the bench, and that’s something to consider,” he explained.

Rush highlighted that every player’s situation is unique and contingent on their ambitions and role within the team.

“I left that club to join Leeds United because I wanted to play every week,” he added, recounting his motivation at the time.

While offering advice, Rush was clear that Salah’s circumstances differ significantly from his own. “But that was my situation.

It all depends on whether you’re happy to stay on the bench or not. But Mohamed is not there yet. So, no, there’s no real reason for him to leave at this point,” he concluded.

Salah, who has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success since joining the club in 2017, remains a focal point in Jürgen Klopp’s lineup.

As his contract nears its expiration, fans and pundits alike eagerly await his decision, which could have a lasting impact on the team’s future.
