‘I won’t disappoint’ – Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba assures after Lille move
Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba has stressed that he is elated with his move to French Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Speaking at a press conference, the experienced centre-back assured that he will work hard to give his best to ensure he does not disappoint.
“Did I receive many offers this summer? I didn’t get any official offer. Like everyone else, I followed the rumours on social media, with my name linked to many clubs… I had the opportunity to speak with President Olivier Létang, I really enjoyed our meetings, he presented the project to me and everyone knows the president. This chance he gave me… I won’t disappoint. I was able to talk with the coach and all the players, so I’m happy to be here,” Mbemba said.
The defender continued, “I spent a year without playing, but I was working individually. I want to keep working to be 100% and help the team, earn the trust of the staff and my teammates. I’m a calm person, I keep to myself, I observe everything around me, but once I’m on the pitch, I’m a different man. I’m here to help the team. I played 45 minutes, and we’ll keep working so I can be ready every time the coach calls on us.”
Chancel Mbemba signed for Lille on transfer deadline day after leaving Olympique Marseille.
He debuted for Lille last weekend in their 2-1 win against Toulouse and is hoping to get some minutes in the next encounter against RC Lens.
