Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has issued a stark warning about the precarious position of manager Liam Rosenior, highlighting the relentless pressure that comes with the Stamford Bridge hot seat.
Rosenior, who signed a five-and-a-half-year deal following the departure of Enzo Maresca – who had guided Chelsea to both the Club World Cup and Conference League – has made a promising start, winning seven of his first ten matches.
Yet Petit insists that even early success may not shield the Englishman from the expectations that come with managing a top Premier League club.
“Can Liam Rosenior ever win a Premier League title with Chelsea? They’ve been changing players every single year. So consistency and stability are very important if you want to win something,” Petit said in an interview with Ignition Casino.
He pointed to the constant turnover of players and managers at top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, stressing how such instability undermines long-term success.
Petit did not hold back on Rosenior’s vulnerability to the board’s scrutiny, adding: “And you’re asking me if Liam Rosenior is capable of winning the title with Chelsea? I’m not sure if he’s going to be the manager in 10 months. If he has three or four bad results in a row, I will not be surprised if the board sacks him.”
Rosenior himself has acknowledged the intense pressure but insists his focus remains on the team and immediate results.
“My motivation is just to make this club as successful as possible and to win the next game. All my energy and time is focused on my players, the team, the way we do the team meetings and the way we train. The other stuff is just noise, and I can’t affect it anyway—apart from by winning games of football,” he said.
