Former Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has claimed that he was faster than many of the top “speedsters” in football history.
In an interview with ESPN, Martins was asked to assess his own pace in comparison to some of the fastest players in recent decades.
The Nigerian forward was adamant that, at his peak, he was even quicker than stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Gareth Bale.
Martins, who had notable spells at clubs such as Inter Milan and Newcastle United, scored 18 goals for the Nigerian national team during his career.
He made a total of 488 appearances at the club level, netting 183 goals before retiring in 2020.
Throughout his international career, Martins earned 42 caps and scored 18 goals for Nigeria.
