Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong has disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reached out to him about representing the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The Bayer Leverkusen wing-back was among a group of players the GFA sought to persuade to play for Ghana.
However, Frimpong, who previously played for Manchester City and Celtic, ultimately chose to represent the Netherlands.
In an interview with 3Sports, Frimpong admitted he gave the idea of playing for Ghana some thought but explained that his decision was influenced by the consistent support he received from the Dutch football system.
“I considered playing for Ghana and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) did make contact with me, but Holland were always the first one to come and they were the country that believed in me,” he said.
Of Ghanaian descent, Frimpong has since earned 10 caps for the Dutch national team. He is currently in Ghana, spending the Christmas holidays.
