Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has revealed the reasoning behind his decision to join AFC Bournemouth, despite receiving interest from several other clubs.
The 25-year-old forward made the switch to the Premier League side from Bristol City in January 2023, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal worth £10 million.
Since arriving at the Vitality Stadium, Semenyo has established himself as a key figure, netting 20 goals in 81 appearances.
In an interview with Showmax, Semenyo explained that Bournemouth’s persistent pursuit of him made the difference.
“I had a few clubs that were quite interested. But Bournemouth had kept track from that summer through to the World Cup, through to January, so their interest was really strong,” he said.
“They were watching me, checking up on me, and that shows how good the club is. They were so interested.”
Semenyo added that once Bournemouth made their intentions clear, his mind was made up.
“Yeah, I knew that my heart was set on joining Bournemouth even though I was having interest and I just never looked back from when I signed,” he added.
The Ghanaian striker enjoyed a standout season, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists. His impressive form has sparked interest from bigger Premier League clubs, with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly monitoring his progress.
