I still feel indebted to DR Congo for the chance to play at 2023 AFCON – Cedric Bakambu
DR Congo forward, Cedric Bakambu has expressed gratitude and a sense of responsibility toward his national team after representing the country at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
In a recent interview, Bakambu reflected on his journey with the national team, describing the AFCON experience as a valuable chapter in his career.
Despite the challenges he faced, he remains determined to make greater contributions to the team in the future.
“I still feel indebted to the selection of my country. After my participation in the African Cup in Côte d’Ivoire, I’ve experienced the ups and downs. I had to step back and look at things differently. I’ve returned to a country that I knew better. Unfortunately, there were injuries, but I feel good,” Bakambu said.
The Real Betis striker, currently competing in Spain’s La Liga, is focused on staying fit and performing at his best. He is determined to end the 2024/25 football season on a high note to secure a spot in the DR Congo squad for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The forward’s ambitions extend beyond the continental tournament. Bakambu aims to play a pivotal role in helping DR Congo secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the national team.
“I play regularly, I recovered from my problems. I am focused on returning to the national team and contributing. I have goals, among which is to finish the season well, play the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco—a great country—but also help the team to qualify for the World Cup,” Bakambu added.
