Manchester City midfielder, Rodri, has expressed high regard for young talent Lamine Yamal, confidently suggesting that the 17-year-old could one day claim the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Lamine Yamal is born in Spain to a Moroccan father and an Equatoguinean mother.
The 2024 season has been remarkable for Yamal, as he played a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory and was awarded both the Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy, solidifying his status as the best young footballer in the world.
In an interview with AS, Rodri emphasized Yamal’s remarkable potential, stating, “I don’t know when he will win it, whether now or later, but I am convinced that he has the potential to win it.”
During the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Rodri admitted to adding some pressure on Yamal, jokingly saying, “Yes, I put a bit of pressure on him (laughs). For me, I think he has everything he needs to win it.”
However, he also highlighted the importance of Yamal’s continued development and reminded fans that the young star must progress at his own pace.
Rodri cautioned that Yamal’s journey to success will not be straightforward, advising him to remain grounded.
He emphasized, “The key is to stay humble despite all the praise. I have always believed in him from the very first moment I saw him.”
