English player of Ghanaian descent, Josh Acheampong has expressed his commitment to continuing his hard work and hoping for more chances to feature for Chelsea.
His comments follow his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park.
Although he previously made his senior debut in a Conference League match against FC Astana, the 19-year-old acknowledged the unique challenges of the Premier League and credited his defensive partner for guiding him through the experience.
“It felt like a big step up physically,” the promising central defender told the club website.
“But you get used to it training with my teammates. Levi [Colwill] helped me during, before, and after the game – even telling me to clap the fans. It’s great to have him around.
“I always try to work for more and more, and hopefully, there are more opportunities to come,” he added.
The match saw Cole Palmer score the opener for Chelsea, putting them ahead 1-0 at halftime. However, a late goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta earned a 1-1 draw, disappointing Chelsea fans.
Acheampong will be eager to retain his spot in the team as Chelsea prepares to face AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday.
