Romain Folz has spoken out following his departure from Young Africans SC, calling it “the result of a lot of nonsense.”
The French coach joined the Tanzanian giants in July 2025 with ambitions to build on their domestic dominance and make a mark in continental competitions.
His tenure, however, lasted just over three months, reportedly ending after a 1-0 defeat to Silver Strikers in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round in October.
In an interview with KICKOff Magazine, Folz, who did manage to secure a trophy during his short spell, insisted that his exit was not due to performance but off-field disruptions he could no longer endure.
“Results were good, and the team was getting very solid, especially tactically. Winning the Community Shield Trophy was a positive moment,” Folz said.
“I work to win, so it is always great to collect trophies. My dismissal was the consequence of a lot of nonsense that my staff had to deal with.
“This is not how I work, and I do not tolerate nonsense. I was dismissed after my first and only loss, having conceded one goal in total. That loss had nothing to do with me, nor my staff.
“Our preparations were extremely disturbed internally, and I was very much against all this. Without this, I wouldn’t have lost a single game, I can guarantee that,” he added.
“I did my part and brought a trophy. That’s all. I cannot say more than what I said. I think I have to remain professional.”
Folz’s comments shed light on a turbulent spell at Yanga, highlighting that internal disagreements rather than on-field results were at the heart of his sudden exit.
