Arsenal legend Ian Wright has applauded Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina for his exceptional performances since rejoining English football.
Wright, speaking on his Wrighty’s House Podcast, labeled Aina as his “Vibes Player of the Year” for 2024, citing his energy and versatility as key attributes.
“I’m going to go with Ola Aina at Forest. I remember watching him at the youth team at Chelsea; he was one of those great youth team players they had with Chalobah and Dominic Solanke.
“He seems to still play with the same vibrance that he had then. He’s got great energy, lots of pace; he’s left foot, right foot, so I’m going to say him. I get good vibes off of him.”
Aina’s return to the Premier League last summer on a free transfer has proven pivotal for Nottingham Forest, who are thriving this season after avoiding relegation last term.
The 28-year-old defender, born in London, rose through Chelsea’s youth system, where he was part of a dominant generation that secured titles like the Barclays U21 Premier League, two FA Youth Cups, and consecutive UEFA Youth League trophies.
After leaving Chelsea permanently for Torino in 2018, Aina had a loan spell with Fulham in 2020 before signing with Forest.
Aina’s versatility, playing effectively in both full-back positions, has made him indispensable.
Nottingham Forest are reportedly in advanced talks to extend his one-year deal, which expires in the summer. Without an agreement, Aina could negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January.
