I don’t want to see Iliman Ndiaye at Liverpool – Barry
Former Gareth Barry has voiced his opposition to any potential move that would see Iliman Ndiaye swap Everton for Liverpool, even as interest in the in-form winger continues to grow ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ndiaye has emerged as one of Everton’s standout performers this season, thriving under the guidance of David Moyes.
His direct style, flair on the ball, and ability to unsettle defenders have made him a key figure at Goodison Park, while also drawing attention from clubs competing at the highest level in Europe.
Recent speculation has linked the Senegal international with a possible move to Liverpool FC, where he has been mentioned as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah.
However, Barry, who enjoyed a distinguished spell with Everton, is adamant that such a transfer would not sit well with supporters and is unlikely to materialise.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Barry said: “As an ex-Evertonian, I don’t want to see any Everton players to Liverpool, especially Iliman Ndiaye. He’s an incredible player. When I’ve seen him live, he’s one of those that really does get you off your seat.”
He further praised Ndiaye’s unique attacking qualities, highlighting his willingness to take on defenders and create moments of excitement. Barry believes those attributes are increasingly rare in the modern game and are a major reason why top clubs are monitoring his progress.
“Not many players do the sort of things he does these days. He loves to just take on players, dribble, try and beat them one on one, gets the fans off their seats. I wouldn’t be surprised if big teams, European Champions League teams are looking at him,” he added.
Despite acknowledging Ndiaye’s growing reputation, Barry questioned the suitability of the winger as a direct replacement for Salah, suggesting differences in playing style could lead Liverpool to explore alternative options.
“A direct replacement for Salah with probably a bit different sort of player. Ndiaye sort of drifts inside a little bit more, so I think Liverpool should look elsewhere.”
