England international of Ivory Coast descent Marc Guehi has expressed his joy after securing a move to Manchester City, stressing he cannot wait to get started at the club.
Guehi joins the Premier League giants from Crystal Palace for a transfer fee worth £20 million and is expected to play a huge role for the club.
The rock-solid defender, who was the captain of Crystal Palace penned a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at Manchester City until summer 2031.
He becomes the Manchester-based club’s second signing in the ongoing winter window after Ghana’s Antoine Semenyo.
“I am very happy and very proud to have joined Manchester City,” Guehi told the club’s official website.
“I feel that this move is the culmination of all the effort I have put in during my football career. I am now at the best club in England, and part of a fantastic team of players. It is a great feeling to say this.”
“I want to develop as a player and as a person, and I know that will happen at this club. I love football; it has given me so much over the years, and continuing my career at Manchester City is a very special moment for me and my family.”
“I can’t wait to start my career now. I want to meet my teammates, train hard, understand what the coach expects from me, and then show the City fans what I can offer”
Manchester City beat out several clubs that were interested in signing Guehi, including Liverpool, who negotiated to sign him in the last summer transfer window.
Guehi joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea for €24 million in 2021. Over the years, he established himself as a true leader for Palace, making over188 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists.
With his wealth of experience, he is expected to play a significant role for Manchester City, who are keen to revive their campaign following an inconsistent performance in the current campaign.
