Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman marked an impressive debut for Atletico Madrid, netting a goal as the Spanish giants thrashed Real Betis 5-0 in their Copa del Rey quarter-final clash on Thursday at La Cartuja.
Lookman, who joined Atletico from Atalanta during the winter transfer window, expressed his delight at the warm welcome and his first performance with the club.
Speaking to MD, the winger said he is eager to build on a strong start.
“Very proud, very happy for my debut, especially for the performance of the team,” he said after the game.
“The team, everyone in the dressing room welcomed me in a very affectionate way. They made it easy for me. That’s why I’m very happy. I’ll try to be regular in the season.
“Everyone works hard. There are things that can be improved, but my intention is to continue working to improve, which is the important thing,” he added.
With a debut goal under his belt, Lookman will aim to maintain his scoring momentum when Atletico Madrid face Real Betis again at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
