I am surprised with Mohamed Salah’s decline – Liverpool legend Steve Nicol
Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has expressed his astonishment at the dramatic dip in form of Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah this season, describing it as unprecedented in his career.
Salah, who was instrumental in Liverpool’s successes last year, has struggled to find the net in the current campaign, managing just seven goals across 29 appearances in all competitions.
His sharp decline in scoring has left fans and pundits puzzled.
Speaking to ESPN, Nicol said, “I know we work here because we’ve played and seen almost everything in football, but I’ve never seen this before.
“How can someone fall from the pinnacle of glory and disappear so quickly? It’s truly terrifying, and I’ve never seen anything like it before. Perhaps it’s a lack of confidence and an irreversible decline.”
The former Reds defender elaborated on the possible causes, noting, “It’s hard to deny that these two problems are the main reasons. Seriously, think about it. I don’t think he can answer. If you talked to Salah himself and asked him, he wouldn’t have the ability to answer, would he? I’m betting on it.”
Salah went scoreless even in Liverpool’s emphatic 5-2 win over West Ham in the Premier League, underscoring the challenges he has faced in maintaining the prolific form that once defined his career at Anfield.
He will hope to return to the scoresheet on Tuesday when Liverpool face Wolves.
