Former Chelsea defender Malang Sarr has revealed his intention to play for Senegal at the senior international level.
Sarr, who came through the youth ranks at OGC Nice, previously represented France at every youth level—from U16 to U21—but never made a senior appearance for Les Bleus.
Despite showing early promise in Ligue 1, his move to Chelsea in 2020 failed to launch his career as expected.
Loan stints at FC Porto and AS Monaco offered little resurgence, and the French defender eventually parted ways with Chelsea by mutual consent last summer.
Now back in France with RC Lens, Sarr has made 22 appearances so far this season, rediscovering form and consistency. With his career gaining momentum again, the 25-year-old has made it clear he is open to switching international allegiance.
In an interview with Taggat, Sarr stated his readiness to answer a call-up from Senegal, the country of his parents’ origin.
“If Senegal calls, I will be there and would be honoured to answer the call,” he said.
“You have to deserve a call-up, and you have to go chasing after it. You have to work hard for it. It is up to me to perform,” added Sarr.
Sarr’s declaration adds to Senegal’s growing list of dual-nationality players who have chosen to represent the West African nation on the international stage.
