Kenya coach Benni McCarthy has strongly hit out at his detractors after announcing his squad for the upcoming 2024 CHAN tournament.
McCarthy will lead his first major tournament as Kenya’s boss next month. The tournament takes place from 2 to 30 August and will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Manchester United and South Africa legend has come under severe criticism following the official announcement of his squad.
Some of his selection choices have been questioned in Kenya, which has now resulted in McCarthy issuing an emphatic message to his critics.
“You can’t please everyone, and I’m not here to please people, I’m here to bring success to this country,” he said Thursday during a press briefing in Nairobi, according to AfricaFootUnited.
“The players we selected are the ones we’ve seen, the ones we’ve worked with in camp and the ones we think can do the job.
“It’s not about who’s had a few good games, it’s about what we’ve seen day in and day out in training.”
Kenya’s opening match will be on 3 August against DR Congo.
