I am Mokoena, not Guardiola – Rulani hits back at critics
MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena has dismissed calls to alter his tactical approach following consecutive dropped points in the Algerian Ligue 1.
The reigning Algerian champions were held to a 0-0 draw by Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie on Thursday, leaving the club atop the league standings.
Reports suggest some supporters are urging the South African coach to adjust his style of play.
“I am Mokoena, not Guardiola. I have my own identity in the work. Every coach has his own way of working.” Mokwena said, as per WinWin.
“I want to continue with Mouloudia until the end of my contract. Changing coaches every season does not serve Algerian football.”
“I cannot change my ideas and training philosophy, and I do not believe in something called a playing style, 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, just phone numbers to me.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant emphasized that his focus is on how players move and function on the pitch, rather than adhering to formations like 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.
“The style and the way the players move on the field is what is most important,” he added.
MC Alger will face ES Mostaganem in their next league fixture this weekend.
