Following Jordan’s remarkable 2-0 victory over South Korea on Tuesday, securing their place in the final of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta described himself as the happiest coach in Asia and possibly the world.
In a post-match interview with tournament broadcasters, Amouta expressed his elation, stating, “I am the happiest coach on the continent, and perhaps in the world… Today is a historic day for us.”
Amouta attributed the success to collective effort, acknowledging the challenge posed by their formidable opponents.
“Scoring two goals against South Korea was not an easy task,” he emphasized.
Reaching the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup marks Jordan’s greatest achievement in their football history, achieved previously in 2004 and 2011.
When asked about his greatest coaching achievement, Amouta responded, “All achievements are important because they come after hard work.”
He continued, “This achievement, I believe, is excellent because it comes at the continental level. But I enjoy all achievements.”
Jordan now awaits the winner of the match between the tournament hosts, Qatar, and Iran, to determine their opponent in the final, scheduled for Saturday.
The Jordanian team’s journey in the Asian Cup has captured the attention and admiration of football fans worldwide, and Amouta’s leadership has been pivotal in their historic run.
As they prepare for the final showdown, the Jordanian squad and their coach are determined to script another chapter of glory in their footballing history.
