Hussein Ammouta in talks for Al Ahly’s vacant coaching job

Former Wydad AC coach Hussein Ammouta has been offered the managerial role at Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, with discussions currently underway as the club looks to rebuild following a disappointing campaign.

Al Ahly are searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Danish tactician Jess Thorup by mutual agreement, following a season that fell below expectations.

The club failed to secure qualification for the CAF Champions League and also lost the Egyptian Premier League title to rivals Zamalek SC, prompting a swift reassessment of the technical leadership.

Ammouta, who previously guided Wydad AC to domestic and continental prominence, has emerged as a leading candidate to take charge.

His most recent coaching role was with Al Jazira Club, further adding to his experience across North African and Gulf football.

Should negotiations conclude successfully, Ammouta would make history as the first Moroccan coach ever appointed by Al Ahly—one of Africa’s most decorated and high-pressure managerial posts.

Sources close to the discussions indicate that talks remain ongoing, with a final decision expected in the coming days as Al Ahly aim to stabilise their technical direction ahead of the new season.
