Hussein Ammouta faces defensive dilemma as Al Ahly search for centre-back reinforcements

Al Ahly coach Hussein Ammouta is reportedly eager to strengthen his defence before the start of the new season, with the Moroccan tactician said to have concerns over his options at centre-back.

According to local reports, the former Morocco boss has identified central defence as a priority area and is pushing for new arrivals before the transfer window closes.

Despite having several defenders already in the squad, Ammouta is believed to be unconvinced that his current options can provide the consistency required for the challenges ahead.

Egyptian defenders linked with move

A number of Egyptian players have reportedly emerged as candidates to bolster Al Ahly’s back line.

Among the names linked with the club are Fenerbahce defender Omar Fayed and Nice centre-back Mohamed Abdelmonem, who has previously starred for the Cairo giants.

Al-Ittihad Alexandria defender Mostafa Ibrahim and ZED’s Ahmed Tarek have also been mentioned as potential targets as Al Ahly continue to assess the market.

Competition for places intensifies

Al Ahly currently have Yasser Ibrahim, Hadi Riad, Yassin Marei, Amr El-Gazzar and Ahmed Abdeen among their defensive options.

However, reports suggest that Ammouta wants greater depth and quality in the heart of the defence ahead of a season in which the club will compete on multiple fronts.

With preparations for the new campaign already under way, Al Ahly’s recruitment team is expected to accelerate efforts to address what has become one of the coach’s biggest concerns before the opening fixtures of the season.
