Mohamed Belloumi shines for Hull City as Sergej Jakirović voices injury concern

Mohamed Bachir Belloumi scored twice as Hull City earned a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea, with manager Sergej Jakirović praising the Algerian forward while warning him to avoid injuries.

The 24 year old was at the centre of Hull City’s performance on Saturday, finding the net twice to help the Tigers claim a point against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Belloumi’s latest display adds to an encouraging start to the season for the Algerian, who has now contributed three goals in four English league appearances. His tally includes two goals and one assist.

Hull have also made a strong start to their campaign and currently sit third in the Premier League with eight points from their opening four matches.

Jakirović believes Belloumi is showing increasing confidence with every game and was pleased to see the winger demonstrate his finishing ability against Chelsea.

“Mo (Bloumi) showed in the first three matches what he can offer at this level, and today he demonstrated his ability to finish attacks and score goals, which is perfect,” Jakirović stated.

The Hull manager believes there is still more to come from the Algeria international hopeful and wants him to maintain the same level of performance in the coming matches.

“He now needs to continue at this level, because he’s an excellent player, and all we need is for him to take care of himself and avoid injuries,” the head coach of the Orange and Black team emphasized.

That final point is particularly important for Jakirović because Belloumi has already experienced a serious injury setback.

The Algerian suffered a torn knee ligament during the 2024-2025 season, an injury that was later followed by muscular problems. His previous fitness issues remain a concern for the Hull coach as he looks to get the best from the left footed player.

For now, Belloumi appears to have put those difficulties behind him and is enjoying an important role in Hull’s strong opening to the campaign.

His performances could also put him in contention for another Algeria call-up during the next international break. Belloumi has already been named in the national team’s final squad on two occasions but has yet to make his senior debut.

The forward’s form has therefore arrived at an important moment. His goals against Chelsea have strengthened his position at Hull and could give him another opportunity to finally make his first appearance for Algeria.

For Jakirović, however, keeping Belloumi fit will be just as important as maintaining his impressive form as Hull continue their Premier League campaign.
