Algerian winger Bachir Belloumi resumes action for Hull City after rehabilitation
Hull City winger Bachir Belloumi has made his long-awaited return to competitive football, appearing for the first time in nearly three months during the Tigers’ 2-1 win over Wrexham.
The 23-year-old Algerian had been sidelined since Hull’s match against Sheffield Wednesday on 26 December after suffering a thigh injury that kept him out of action for an extended period.
Belloumi, the son of Algerian football legend Lakhdar Belloumi, was named in the squad for the trip to Wrexham, marking his first involvement since his injury setback earlier in the season.
Speaking before the match, Hull City assistant coach Dean Holden acknowledged the winger’s absence and the careful approach required for his return.
“He is a top player and he has not been fit enough this season,” Holden had said.
He also added: “He’s been out since Boxing Day and hasn’t been able to train much, so we’ll have to be careful about the playing time we give him. But he’s worked very hard during his rehabilitation and he’s really keen to come back and participate.”
Belloumi eventually came on as a late substitute, playing the final eight minutes as Hull City secured victory away from home. The brief appearance marked a first step back into competitive action following months of recovery.
The Algerian winger’s recent seasons have been disrupted by injuries, limiting his ability to build momentum and maintain regular involvement with the team.
His return will therefore be seen as a positive development for both the player and the club as the campaign moves toward its closing stages.
Now back in the squad, Belloumi will aim to rebuild his match fitness and gradually increase his playing time.
The winger remains under contract with Hull City until June 2028 and will be hoping to establish a consistent run of appearances before the end of the season.
For Hull City, his return adds another attacking option as they look to finish the campaign strongly, while Belloumi’s focus will be on rediscovering the form that first marked him out as a promising talent.
