Hugo Ekitike reflects with gratitude after scoring against former club Frankfurt
Hugo Ekitike’s return to Frankfurt was filled with emotion and purpose as the Liverpool striker found the net in their commanding 5-1 Champions League victory at Deutsche Bank Park.
The French forward, who spent a formative part of his career at Eintracht Frankfurt, struck the equaliser with a calm finish that displayed maturity and class.
Instead of celebrating wildly, Ekitike chose a quiet acknowledgment, heading to the bench to embrace teammate Federico Chiesa. His restraint reflected respect for the club that shaped him into the player he is today.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Ekitike said, “It was a great feeling. It was something special for me to come back, I would say at home. I know everyone here. It was important for me to come and score my first in the Champions League.”
His post-match reflections carried warmth and humility. “I have so much respect for them. They made me the player I am right now. I wouldn’t be here (Liverpool) if I didn’t come to Frankfurt. I am grateful for what they gave me.”
