Hugo Ekitike nets debut France goal in emphatic World Cup qualifier victory over Ukraine
Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has opened his scoring account for the French national team following his strike in the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine.
Ekitike, who also has Cameroonian roots played a pivotal role by registering his name on the scoresheet, contributing to the Les Blues emphatic 4-0 victory over Ukraine on Thursday.
The former Frankfurt attacker found the back of the in the 88th minute after being setup by Real Madrid star, Kylian Mbappé. Ekitike had to wait until his fifth appearance before netting his first goal for the French national team.
Having ended his goal drought with the national team, the enterprising attacker will be hoping to maintain momentum in order to score more for the Les Blues.
He is expected to feature against Azerbaijan in the final World Cup playoff before the return to club football.
Ekitike has been in a rich vein of form for Liverpool in the current campaign, scoring six goals and providing an assist in 16 appearances across competitions.
With the World Cup fast approaching, the forward will be hoping to maintain his form throughout the season to command a place in the France squad for the biggest soccer mundial to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
