The South African Football Association (South African Football Association) will soon open the process to recruit a new head coach for the national team, with officials stressing the urgency of making a decision ahead of upcoming international commitments.

Speaking on the situation, SAFA Technical Committee Chair Jack Maluleke confirmed that preparations are underway to identify a successor, but indicated that the door has not been closed on current head coach Hugo Broos.

“As a technical committee we are here to tell you that the process to recruit another coach will be starting soon,” Maluleke said.

He added that if Broos is interested in continuing, he would be required to formally present his case, making it clear that his future remains under consideration.

“If Hugo Broos has interest to continue I think he will also make the presentation to say he is also available — we won’t close that space,” he stated.

Maluleke also emphasised the need for urgency in the decision-making process, noting the demanding schedule ahead for the national team following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“We have to start soon with the process because we are aware that immediately after the World Cup the team must proceed with other qualifiers, so we are not going to close the door on anyone — including Hugo Broos,” he added.

The remarks underline SAFA’s intent to balance continuity with long-term planning as Bafana Bafana prepare for a busy international calendar.
