Montpellier winger Isaac Mbenza is set to make his move to Huddersfield permanent despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Mbenza, a Belgian of Congolese descent, spent the 2018-2019 season on loan at Huddersfield with an option to buy. Although the Terriers were relegated from the Premier League, the club confirmed on their official website that they will exercise the purchase option for the 22-year-old.
“The loans of Isaac Mbenza and Jason Puncheon will end, but the club will activate the option to make Mbenza’s transfer permanent this summer. The administrative procedures to make this agreement official are not yet complete,” Huddersfield stated.
Valued at around €15 million, Mbenza featured in 22 matches for the club this season, scoring once. The winger’s permanent move marks a vote of confidence from Huddersfield, who are aiming to retain key players as they prepare for life in the English second division.
