Houssine Kharja Signs with FC Sochaux
Houssine Kharja is back in French football. The 31-year-old Moroccan international midfielder has officially signed a deal with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard until the end of the current season, the Ligue 2 club announced on its website.
Kharja had been training on trial with the Lionceaux for several days before earning the contract. Out of contract since leaving Al Arabi SC in Qatar in 2013, the former Moroccan captain had tried to relaunch his career in Italy, but those efforts proved unsuccessful.
With over 250 league appearances in top-flight football, Kharja brings a wealth of experience, having previously played for prestigious clubs such as AS Roma, Genoa, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina. During his time in Italy, he won the Coppa Italia and was a two-time runner-up.
Kharja’s return to France comes at a critical moment for Sochaux, who are looking to bounce back in Ligue 2 following their relegation from the top tier under former coach Hervé Renard.
This signing is seen as a boost for Sochaux’s midfield, adding leadership and technical quality as they aim for promotion.
