Houssem Aouar’s time at Al-Ittihad could be nearing its end after the Saudi club decided to review its foreign squad plans ahead of the new season.
The Algerian midfielder is reportedly one of the players the management is prepared to move on following the team’s disappointing exit from the Super Cup.
Al-Ittihad fell 2-1 to Al-Nassr in the semi-final played in Hong Kong, a result that has sparked changes inside the club. According to Saudi newspaper Al-Youm, the administration has already started steps to part ways with Aouar. The report added that the decision comes from concerns that he has not delivered the expected impact since joining the team.
The Jeddah giants are now looking at signing new foreign talents before the league campaign begins. Officials believe strengthening the squad is key as the club prepares to chase silverware on three fronts: the Saudi League, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, and the AFC Champions League.
