Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar has described Karim Benzema’s transfer from Al Ittihad to Al Hilal in the winter window as a normal step for a superstar at this stage of his career.
Speaking on MBC Action’s “Action” program, the Al Ittihad player made clear he holds great respect for his former teammate and sees the move as part of the natural dynamics of modern football.
Aouar also opened up about his ambitions with the Algerian national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He said that if Algeria’s players prepare properly with their clubs, the team will be “fully ready” for the tournament, stressing that his personal goal is to play as many matches as possible with Al Ittihad to reach peak fitness for international duty.
Looking at the rest of the current season in Saudi Arabia, Aouar struck an optimistic tone.
He underlined that the campaign is only at its halfway point and vowed to Al Ittihad fans that the squad will “keep fighting and competing with all our strength until the end,” insisting that there is still plenty to play for in the league and cups.
