After days of deliberation following the dismissal of Portuguese manager Rui Vitória, Egypt’s Minister of Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, and the Egyptian Football Association have reached an agreement to appoint Hossam Hassan as the new head coach of the Egyptian national team.
This decision comes in the aftermath of Egypt’s disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where they were eliminated in the second round by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A Unique Coaching Experience: Hossam Hassan’s Stint with Jordan
While Hossam Hassan’s coaching career boasts numerous club experiences, his tenure with national teams remains singular, primarily marked by his impactful stint with Jordan’s national team, known as the “Nashama.”
Leading the team from June 25, 2013, until his departure on July 30, 2014, Hassan guided Jordan through 11 matches, winning 4, losing 2, and drawing 5.
Under his leadership, the Jordanian squad scored 17 goals while conceding 20.
Notably, Hassan’s achievements included steering the Nashama to qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and contributing to their qualification campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, albeit falling short against Uruguay with an aggregate score of 5-0.
