Hossam Hassan to meet Hany Abou Rida over possible Egypt coaching changes

Hossam Hassan is set to hold talks with Egypt Football Association president Hany Abou Rida and other board members in the coming days as the two sides discuss possible changes to the national team’s coaching staff.

The meeting is expected to cover Egypt’s plans for the next phase, the organisation of two friendly matches and preparations for the training camp before the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Egypt’s qualifying campaign begins in September with matches against Angola and South Sudan.

One of the main issues on the agenda will be the possible departure of some members of Hassan’s backroom team before the next stage of the national side’s programme begins.

The Egyptian Football Association is also seeking to renew the coaching staff’s contracts following Egypt’s achievement of reaching the last 16 of the World Cup.

The federation recently published a photograph on its Facebook account showing Abou Rida at a meeting to discuss extending the contracts of twins Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan. The session was also attended by the association’s vice-president Khaled El-Dirandaly, board member Hamada El-Sherbiny and Egypt’s administrative director Walid Badr.

The association had previously announced the formation of a committee to determine the terms of Hassan’s new contract as Egypt head coach.

That committee is expected to discuss the details of the extension with Hassan, including the coaching staff, revised salaries and arrangements for the two friendly fixtures during the next international window.

A source from the Egyptian Football Association told FilGoal.com: “We will not pay Saafan El-Soghier’s fine.”

Hassan took charge of Egypt in February 2024 and began his tenure with a match against New Zealand in March of the same year.

Since then, the former Egypt international has led the national team in 35 matches, recording 19 wins, 10 draws and five defeats.

Egypt finished second in Group G with five points, behind Belgium on points difference.

During the group stage, Egypt drew with Belgium and Iran, while their only victory came against New Zealand in a 3-1 win.

The Pharaohs then defeated Australia on penalties in the round of 32 before losing to holders Argentina in the last 16.

The upcoming discussions will therefore combine immediate planning for Egypt’s next competitive fixtures with longer-term decisions over the structure and terms of Hassan’s coaching team. The federation’s talks with the manager are expected to address both the make-up of the staff and the financial arrangements linked to any renewed agreement.
